KUALA LUMPUR, 24 Jan 2018:
A downpour that lashed the Klang Valley for over four hours from 3pm led to flash floods with several major routes experiencing massive traffic congestion.
Among the affected areas were Petaling Jaya, Rawang and Gombak.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Alimaddia Bukri said traffic congestion was caused by stagnant water in some major routes such as in Jalan Persiaran Surian in Petaling Jaya and Jalan B27 near Jusco Rawang.
“The congestion stretched for over seven kilometres because the roads were flooded up to 0.6m of water. This was due to heavy persistent rain in the area.”
In addition, six houses in Phase Four of the Taman Rahmat Jaya housing area, Gombak, were also inundated by 0.3-0.6m of water due to Sungai Kuang overflowing.
Alimaddia said the situation in the area was gradually recovering despite heavy rain still falling in several areas around the city.
