Sabah exported 10,370 metric tonnes worth RM9.46 million of ‘Pisang Saba’ in 2016.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said the volume was an increase by 867% from 1,072 metric tonnes worth RM1.2 million in 2012.
He said 8,117 metric tonnes of the banana worth more than RM9.4 million were exported to Peninsular Malaysia alone between January and October this year.
“Considering that it had penetrated the export market, we have to ensure that our supply has quality and able to constantly meet the demand,” said Yahya who is also Agriculture and Food Industry Minister at a Banana Entrepreneurial Marketing programme here today.
Yahya also said FAMA agreed from yesterday to raise the price of produce at the farm and collection centre from 60 sen to RM1 per kg according to grade.
