KUALA LUMPUR, 8 April 2023:
The latest triathlon outfit to add Malaysia to its calendar is Dutch-based Challenge Family, which is featuring its event at Johor’s Forest City come Sept 2 this year.
In a statement, CEO Jort Vlam said: “Challenge Malaysia will take place almost entirely within the limits of this fascinating city which stands on reclaimed land across four man-made islands in the warm waters of the Johor Strait, separating Malaysia from Singapore.”
Challenge Malaysia race director Aldrian Yeo said the course is designed around spectator enjoyment as well as maximum athlete experience as Forest City’s low traffic on its roads means the course goes from the swim at the beach to 3 loops on the bike course and 2 loops on the run.
“As the 1.9km swim off the main beach (in) average water temperatures at around 28°C, wetsuits can be left at home!
“The 90km bike course ranges from cityscapes to ocean views to mangrove jungles, all on smooth, fast roads before a half marathon through the futuristic streets of Forest City, finishing in the tropical beachfront setting of the main race hub.”
Challenge Malaysia will also host sprint distance and Junior Challenge events on Friday, Sept 1 – providing an inclusive weekend of sport for all ages and abilities. Registrations open to children from age 7 and fees start at RM180.
