JOHOR BAHRU, 19 July 2017:
Seven teenage boys have been detained for allegedly beating up a schoolmate in front of a secondary school in Skudai here on Monday.
Police arrested the suspects, aged between 14 and 16, at several locations after the incident was reported to the school and the victim’s family.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the incident occurred after the victim reported to a teacher that the suspects had climbed over the school fence to skip classes.
Annoyed by the victim’s action, the suspects punched, stomped and kicked the victim – causing him to suffer bruises and injuries on the head, face, back and hands.
A member of the public who witnessed the incident rescued the 13-year-old victim and later informed the school and victim’s family.
“All the suspects are being remanded until July 20 and we will conduct a detailed investigation to curb gangsterism among schoolchildren,” Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, he confirmed that five individuals including a woman had been detained for brutally beating a Form Five male student after he refused to join a secret society on July 16.
He said four of the suspects were detained by Johor police early yesterday morning while another was detained by Melaka police on the same day.
“The suspects aged between 15 and 19 years old are being remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code.”
Separately, police have arrested two men and are hunting for five more, suspected of rioting using deadly weapons in front of a house in Taman Skudai Baru, Skudai here last week.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said the duo, aged 27, were detained after police received a report from a 35-year-old man claiming he and his 25-year-old brother were assaulted and injured in the 9pm incident on Friday.
“The complainant was in front of the house when he was approached by three men on motorcycles who wanted to see his younger brother. On seeing the younger man, the three men began kicking and beating him.
“The elder brother tried to stop the assault, but one of the suspects brandished a jack knife and slashed him on the right hand. At that moment, four more men armed with three machetes arrived in a Mitsubishi van and chased the victims who ran into the house,” Noor Hashim said in a statement today.
Before the assailants fled the scene, he said they also threatened both victims not to lodge a police report.
As the result of investigations, police raided a house in Taman Nesa, Skudai at 11.30pm on Sunday and arrested the first suspect, who worked as a technician.
The second suspect, who was unemployed, was arrested half hour later at Taman Bukit Indah. Both suspects were tested negative for drugs, but had no past criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
