PUTRAJAYA, 3 March 2023:
There is rising concern as Malaysia’s grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw five more fatalities in the latest 24 hours under review to raise the death toll to 36,965, with another two brought-in-dead cases to increase this subtotal to 7,876 casualties.
The latest deaths involved two boosted persons, two fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
This tragedy comes on the heels of the nation seeing 244 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the overall tally to 5,043,252 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (190) or fully vaccinated (32) while unvaccinated persons numbered 21 and one partially vaccinated.
Kuala Lumpur (81) reported the most new cases, followed by Selangor (76), Melaka (14), Johor (12), Sarawak (11) and Penang (10). Single digits were recorded Kedah (8), Terengganu (7), Negeri Sembilan (5), Perak (5), Kelantan (4), Pahang (4), Sabah (4), Putrajaya (2), Labuan (1) and Perlis recording none.
The 213 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,997,031 (99%) while active cases rose 26 to 9,256 – with 8,986 (96.1%) in home quarantine, 353 (3.8%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at seven Covid19 patients, with two needing breathing aids.
