Pre-Endemic day 334: Covid19 new daily case reports at 206

PUTRAJAYA, 1 March 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 206 persons recording positive tests – with five imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,042,791 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (140) or fully vaccinated (36) while unvaccinated persons numbered 30.

Selangor (57) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (56), Melaka (18), Johor (16), Terengganu (12) and Sarawak (11). Single digits were recorded in Kedah (7), Perak (6), Labuan (4), Pahang (4), Putrajaya (4), Sabah (4), Kelantan (3), Negeri Sembilan (2), Penang (2) and Perlis recording none.

The 176 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,996,585 (99%) while active cases rose 29 to 9,248 – with 8,901 (96.2%) in home quarantine, 340 (3.7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at seven Covid19 patients, with three needing breathing aids.

After a week’s pause, the grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw one more fatality to raise the death toll to 36,958 while the brought-in-dead cases subtotal stayed at 7,873 casualties. The latest death involved an unvaccinated person.
