Pre-Endemic day 328: Covid19 new daily case reports rose to 229

PUTRAJAYA, 23 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review rose to 229 persons recording positive tests – with no imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,041,587 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (178) or fully vaccinated (32) while unvaccinated persons numbered 18 and one partially vaccinated.

Selangor (85) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (61), Melaka (19), Johor (10) and Perak (10). Single digits were recorded in Kedah (8), Kelantan (8), Negeri Sembilan (8), Putrajaya (7), Sarawak (6), Penang (4), Pahang (1), Perlis (1), Sabah (1); with Labuan and Terengganu recording none.

The 227 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,995,306 (99%) while active cases rose two to 9,324 – with 9,001 (96.5%) in home quarantine, 315 (3.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at eight Covid19 patients, with six needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused for the second consecutive day to keep the death toll at 36,957 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,873 casualties.
