PUTRAJAYA, 21 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 167 persons recording positive tests – with seven imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,041,174 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (118) or fully vaccinated (31) while unvaccinated persons numbered 18.

Selangor (54) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (45) and Johor (17). Single digits were recorded in Kedah (9), Terengganu (8), Negeri Sembilan (7), Melaka (5), Putrajaya (5), Pahang (4), Perak (4), Kelantan (2), Penang (2), Perlis (2), Labuan (1), Sabah (1) and Sarawak (1).

The 169 discharges just outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,994,887 (99%) while active cases dipped three to 9,330 – with 8,983 (96.3%) in home quarantine, 338 (3.6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to nine Covid19 patients, with six needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw one more fatality to raise the death toll to 36,957 – being a brought-in-dead case to raise this subtotal to 7,873 casualties. The casualty involved a vaccination boosted person.
