Pre-Endemic day 325: Covid19 new daily case reports at 186

PUTRAJAYA, 20 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 186 persons recording positive tests – with five imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,041,007 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (141) or fully vaccinated (20) while unvaccinated persons numbered 24 and one partially vaccinated.

Selangor (78) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (33), Johor (11) and Putrajaya (10). Single digits were recorded in Melaka (9), Negeri Sembilan (9), Sarawak (7), Kedah (6), Pahang (6), Penang (6), Sabah (6), Perak (3), Kelantan (1), Perlis (1); while Labuan and Terengganu had none for the third straight day.

The 158 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,994,758 (99%) while active cases fell 27 to 9,333 – with 9,000 (96.4%) in home quarantine, 326 (3.5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at seven Covid19 patients, with four needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw one more fatality to raise the death toll to 36,956 – while the brought-in-dead case subtotal stayed at 7,872 casualties. The casualty involved an unvaccinated person.
