Pre-Endemic day 324: Covid19 new daily cases at 212

PUTRAJAYA, 19 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 212 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,040,821 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (163) or fully vaccinated (28) while unvaccinated persons numbered 20 and one partially vaccinated.

Selangor (69) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (57), Melaka (19), Penang (16) and Sarawak (15). Single digits were recorded in Negeri Sembilan (8), Johor (7), Kedah (5), Perak (4), Putrajaya (4), Kelantan (3), Pahang (3), Perlis (1), Sabah (1); while Labuan and Terengganu had none for the second straight day.

The 310 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,994,560 (99%) while active cases fell 99 to 9,306 – with 8,968 (96.4%) in home quarantine, 332 (3.6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to six Covid19 patients, with three needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw one more fatality to raise the death toll to 36,955 – being a brought-in-dead case to raise this subtotal to 7,872 casualties. The casualty involved a fully vaccinated person.
