Pre-Endemic day 323: Covid19 new daily case reports at 241

PUTRAJAYA, 18 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 241 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,040,609 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (190) or fully vaccinated (61) while unvaccinated persons numbered 28 and two partially vaccinated.

Selangor (85) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (63), Johor (17), Melaka (13), Putrajaya (11) and Sarawak (11). Single digits were recorded in Negeri Sembilan (9), Penang (9), Kedah (8), Perak (7), Pahang (3), Sabah (3), Kelantan (1), Perlis (1); while Labuan and Terengganu had none.

The 235 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,994,250 (99%) while active cases rose six to 9,406 – with 9,080 (96.5%) in home quarantine, 316 (3.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at nine Covid19 patients, with three needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused for the second straight day to keep the death toll at 36,954 – and brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,872 casualties.
