Pre-Endemic day 317: Covid19 new daily case reports at 259

PUTRAJAYA, 12 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review saw 259 persons record positive tests – with five imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,039,326 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (181) or fully vaccinated (45) while unvaccinated persons numbered 30 and three partially vaccinated.

Selangor (100) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (66), Melaka (18), Perak (16), Penang (12) and Johor (10). Single digits were recorded in Sarawak (9), Kedah (8), Sabah (8), Negeri Sembilan (5), Putrajaya (3), Labuan (2) and Pahang (2); while Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu reported none.

The 390 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,992,776 (99%) while active cases fell 132 to 9,599 – with 9,268 (96.6%) in home quarantine, 320 (3.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 11 Covid19 patients, with four needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added another fatality to raise the death toll to 36,951 – while the brought-in-dead cases subtotal stayed at 7,871 casualties. The latest deaths involved a fully vaccinated person.
