Pre-Endemic day 314: Covid19 new daily case reports at 189

PUTRAJAYA, 9 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stayed below the 200 mark for the third straight day as 189 persons recorded positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,038,543 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (136) or fully vaccinated (17) while unvaccinated persons numbered 36.

Kuala Lumpur (65) reported the most new cases, followed by Selangor (43), Melaka (23), Sarawak (13) and Johor (11). Single digits were recorded in Kedah (7), Negeri Sembilan (7), Perak (7), Penang (6), Putrajaya (3), Kelantan (2), Pahang (1) and Sabah (1); while Labuan, Perlis and Terenganu reported none.

The 279 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,991,705 (99%) while active cases dipped 90 to 9,892 – with 9,530 (96.3%) in home quarantine, 355 (3.6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to seven Covid19 patients, with four needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused to keep the death toll at 36,946 – and brought-in-dead cases subtotal stayed at 7,871 casualties.
