Pre-Endemic day 313: Covid19 new daily case reports at 184

PUTRAJAYA, 8 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stayed below the 200 mark for the second straight day as 184 persons recorded positive tests – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,038,354 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (135) or fully vaccinated (26) while unvaccinated persons numbered 22 and one partially vaccinated.

Selangor (52) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (41) and Melaka (28). Single digits were recorded in Sarawak (9), Sabah (8), Kedah (7), Negeri Sembilan (7), Johor (6), Putrajaya (6), Kelantan (5), Perak (5), Pahang (4), Penang (3) and Terengganu (3); while Labuan and Perlis reported none for second consecutive day.

The 253 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,991,426 (99%) while active cases dipped 71 to 9,982 – with 9,621 (96.4%) in home quarantine, 357 (3.6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units fell to four Covid19 patients, with all needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw two more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,944 – while the brought-in-dead cases subtotal stayed at 7,871 casualties. The casualties involved a boosted person and one unvaccinated.
