PUTRAJAYA, 6 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 211 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,037,995 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (131) or fully vaccinated (46) while unvaccinated persons numbered 34.

Selangor (94) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (42), Terengganu (13) and Johor (10). Single digits were recorded in Perak (9), Negeri Sembilan (8), Kelantan (7), Melaka (7), Sarawak (6), Kedah (4), Putrajaya (4), Pahang (3), Penang (2) and Sabah (2); while Perlis and Labuan reported none.

The 272 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,990,977 (99%) while active cases dipped 61 to 10,075 – with 9,663 (95.9%) in home quarantine, 402 (4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 10 Covid19 patients, with eight needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused the death toll at 36,943 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal staying at 7,870 casualties for the sixth straight day.
