Pre-Endemic day 310: Covid19 new daily case reports dip to 202

PUTRAJAYA, 5 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review dipped to 202 persons recording positive tests – with six imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,037,784 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (141) or fully vaccinated (38) while unvaccinated persons numbered 22 and one partially vaccinated.

Kuala Lumpur (65) reported the most new cases, followed by Selangor (58), Melaka (17) and Penang (13). Single digits were recorded in Sarawak (8), Johor (7), Negeri Sembilan (7), Kedah (6), Perak (6), Putrajaya (5), Kelantan (4), Pahang (3), Sabah (2) and Perlis (1), while Labuan and Terengganu reported none for the second straight day.

The 275 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,990,705 (99%) while active cases dipped 74 to 10,136 – with 9,758 (96.3%) in home quarantine, 372 (3.7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units fell to just six Covid19 patients, with all needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 saw one more fatality to raise the death toll to 36,943 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal staying at 7,870 casualties for the fifth straight day. The casualty was a vaccination boosted person.
