PUTRAJAYA, 1 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 251 persons recording positive tests – with no imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,036,593 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (175) or fully vaccinated (46) while unvaccinated persons numbered 27 and three partially vaccinated.

Kuala Lumpur (86) reported the most new cases, followed by Selangor (63), Sarawak (20), Melaka (10) and Negeri Sembilan (10). Single digits were recorded in Johor (9), Kedah (9), Putrajaya (9), Perak (7), Penang (7), Pahang (6), Sabah (6), Terengganu (6) and Kelantan (3), while Labuan and Perlis reported none for the third straight day.

The 141 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,989,861 (99%) while active cases rose 251 to 9,790 – with 9,374 (95.8%) in home quarantine, 401 (4.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 15 Covid19 patients, with nine needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused to keep the death toll at 36,942 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal staying at 7,870 casualties.
