Pre-Endemic day 305: Covid19 new daily case reports at 202

PUTRAJAYA, 31 Jan 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 202 persons recording positive tests – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,036,342 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (141) or fully vaccinated (32) while unvaccinated persons numbered 27 and two partially vaccinated.

Selangor (81) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (37), Johor (17), Kedah (14) and Perak (12). Single digits were recorded in Penang (8), Sarawak (8), Putrajaya (7), Melaka (6), Negeri Sembilan (6), Sabah (2), Kelantan (1) and Terengganu (0), while Labuan and Perlis reported none for the second straight day.

The 141 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,989,861 (99%) while active cases rose 59 to 9,539 – with 9,135 (95.8%) in home quarantine, 381 (4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 23 Covid19 patients, with 12 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added another two fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,942 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal staying at 7,870 casualties. The deaths involved a boosted person and one unvaccinated.
