Pre-Endemic day 298: Covid19 new daily case reports fall to 142, no deaths for 2nd straight day

PUTRAJAYA, 24 Jan 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review fell below the 200 mark for the first time since late 2020 as 142 persons recorded positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,034,972 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (97) or fully vaccinated (30) while unvaccinated persons numbered 15.

Selangor (53) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (27), Melaka (10) and Negeri Sembilan (10). Single digits were recorded in Johor (8), Putrajaya (7), Kedah (6), Perak (4), Terengganu (4), Pahang (3), Sarawak (3), Kelantan (2), Penang (2), Sabah (2), Perlis (1) and Labuan had none.

The 267 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,987,828 (99%) while active cases fell 125 to 10,212 – with 9,859 (96.5%) in home quarantine, 337 (3.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 16 Covid19 patients, with 11 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused with the second straight day of no new fatalities to keep the death toll at 36,932 – and brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,866 casualties.
