Pre-Endemic day 297: Covid19 new case reports at 309, no deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 23 Jan 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 308 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,034,830 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (170) or fully vaccinated (80) while unvaccinated persons numbered 54 and five partially vaccinated.

Penang (89) suddenly surged to report the most new cases, followed by Selangor (84), Kuala Lumpur (51), Johor (14), Negeri Sembilan (14), Sarawak (13) and Kedah (12). Single digits were recorded in Melaka (9), Terengganu (6), Perak (5), Putrajaya (5), Sabah (3), Pahang (2), Kelantan (1), while Labuan and Perlis had none.

The 292 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,987,561 (99%) while active cases rose 17 to 10,337 – with 9,943 (96.2%) in home quarantine, 381 (3.7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 13 Covid19 patients, with 10 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused to keep the death toll at 36,930 – with no brought-in-dead cases for the third straight day keeping this subtotal at 7,866 casualties.
