Pre-Endemic day 296: Covid19 new daily case reports at 293

PUTRAJAYA, 22 Jan 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 293 persons recording positive tests – with no imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,034,521 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (209) or fully vaccinated (40) while unvaccinated persons numbered 44.

Selangor (84) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (69), Penang (28), Melaka (19), Kedah (18), Johor (15), Sarawak (15), Perak (13) and Negeri Sembilan (12). Single digits were recorded in Putrajaya (6), Sabah (5), Terengganu (4), Kelantan (2), Pahang (2), Labuan (1) and Perlis had none.

The 326 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,987,269 (99%) while active cases fell 35 to 10,320 – with 9,942 (96.3%) in home quarantine, 366 (3.5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 12 Covid19 patients, with 10 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added two more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,930 – with no brought-in-dead cases for the second straight day keeping this subtotal at 7,866 casualties. The deaths involved a boosted person and one fully vaccinated.
