PUTRAJAYA, 21 Jan 2023:
Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review dipped to 285 persons recording positive tests – with five imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,034,228 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (211) or fully vaccinated (42). Unvaccinated persons numbered 31 and one partially vaccinated.
Selangor (98) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (69), Melaka (21), Johor (15), Perak (14), Sarawak (13) and Penang (11). Single digits were recorded in Negeri Sembilan (9), Putrajaya (9), Kedah (8), Pahang (6), Sabah (4), Kelantan (3), Terengganu (3), Labuan (1) and Perlis (1).
The 300 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,986,943 (99%) while active cases fell 22 to 10,355 – with 9,957 (96.2%) in home quarantine, 382 (3.7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 16 Covid19 patients, with 14 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added seven more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,930 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,866 casualties. The deaths involved three boosted persons and four unvaccinated.
