PUTRAJAYA, 20 Jan 2023:
Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review saw 318 persons record positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,033,943 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (206) or fully vaccinated (69). Unvaccinated persons numbered 40 and three partially vaccinated.
Selangor (94) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (71), Sarawak (20), Melaka (17), Sabah (16), Johor (15), Terengganu (13), Kedah (12), Negeri Sembilan (12), Perak (12), Penang (11) and Putrajaya (11). Single digits were recorded in Pahang (8), Kelantan (6), none in Labuan and Perlis.
The 331 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,986,643 (99%) while active cases dipped 13 to 10,377 – with 9,960 (96%) in home quarantine, 398 (3.8%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units rose to 19 Covid19 patients, with 15 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused to keep the death toll at 36,923 – with the brought-in-dead case subtotal at 7,866 casualties.
