Pre-Endemic day 293: Covid19 new daily case reports at 371

PUTRAJAYA, 19 Jan 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review saw 371 persons record positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,033,625 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (265) or fully vaccinated (68). Unvaccinated persons numbered 36 and two partially vaccinated.

Selangor (148) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (70), Perak (21), Sarawak (19), Melaka (18), Johor (16), Putrajaya (16), Kedah (14) and Terengganu (11). Single digits were recorded in Negeri Sembilan (9), Pahang (9), Penang (9), Kelantan (4), Sabah (4), Perlis (2) and Labuan (1).

The 304 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,986,312 (99%) while active cases rose 63 to 10,390 – with 9,970 (96%) in home quarantine, 404 (3.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 16 Covid19 patients, with 14 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added four more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,923 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,866 casualties. The deaths involved a boosted person and three unvaccinated.
