PUTRAJAYA, 16 Jan 2023:
Malaysia’s Covid19 situation stayed below the 300 mark as 244 persons recorded positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,032,677 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (167) or fully vaccinated (47). Unvaccinated persons numbered 29 and one was partially vaccinated.
Selangor (84) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (37), Johor (22), Melaka (17), Perak (15), Penang (14), Sarawak (11) and Kedah (10). Single digits were recorded in Pahang (8), Putrajaya (8), Negeri Sembilan (7), Sabah (6), Kelantan (3), Terengganu (2), while Labuan and Perlis recorded none.
The 401 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,985,292 (99%) while active cases dropped by 157 to 10,477 – with 10,008 (95.5%) in home quarantine, 449 (4.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 20 Covid19 patients, with nine needing breathing aids.
There was a pause for a second consecutive day to the grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 as the death toll stayed at 36,908 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,861 casualties.
