Pre-Endemic day 289: Covid19 new daily case reports dip below 300, no deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 15 Jan 2023:

Finally clawing back to when statistics were low back in October 2020, Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw a dip below the 300 mark as 287 persons recorded positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with an imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,032,433 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (188) or fully vaccinated (63). Unvaccinated persons numbered 33 and three were partially vaccinated.

Selangor (103) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (47), Perak (21), Sarawak (18), Johor (17), Melaka (17), Negeri Sembilan (11) and Kedah (10). Single digits were recorded in Penang (9), Putrajaya (9), Terengganu (9), Sabah (8), Pahang (6), Kelantan (1), Perlis (1) and none in Labuan.

The 590 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,984,891 (99%) while active cases dropped by 303 to 10,634 – with 10,175 (95.7%) in home quarantine, 439 (4.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 20 Covid19 patients, with seven needing breathing aids.

There was a pause to the grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 as the death toll stayed at 36,908 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,861 casualties.
