Pre-Endemic day 288: Covid19 new daily case reports at 320

PUTRAJAYA, 14 Jan 2023:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation stayed steady as 320 persons recorded positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,032,146 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (224) or fully vaccinated (53). Unvaccinated persons numbered 42 and one were partially vaccinated.

Selangor (105) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (53), Sarawak (25), Melaka (24), Penang (18), Perak (17), Johor (15), Putrajaya (13), Kedah (12) and Negeri Sembilan (10). Single digits were recorded in Pahang (9), Sabah (6), Labuan (5), Kelantan (4), Terengganu (3) and Perlis (1).

The 506 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,984,301 (99%) while active cases dipped by 189 to 10,937 – with 10,467 (95.7%) in home quarantine, 453 (4.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 17 Covid19 patients, with five needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added three more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,908 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,861 casualties. The deaths involved two boosted persons and one unvaccinated.
