Pre-Endemic day 287: Covid19 new daily case reports at 383

PUTRAJAYA, 13 Jan 2023:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation stayed steady as 383 persons recorded positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,031,826 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (256) or fully vaccinated (74). Unvaccinated persons numbered 51 and two were partially vaccinated.

Selangor (141) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (58), Sarawak (31), Melaka (28), Penang (27), Kedah (17), Negeri Sembilan (14), Perak (13), Johor (11), Kelantan (11) and Terengganu (10). Single digits were recorded in Putrajaya (8), Sabah (6), Labuan (4), Pahang (2) and Perlis (2).

The 625 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,983,795 (99%) while active cases dipped by 246 to 11,126 – with 10,611 (95.4%) in home quarantine, 495 (4.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 20 Covid19 patients, with eight needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added four more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,905 – with another two brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,861 casualties. The deaths involved all four boosted persons.
