Pre-Endemic day 286: Covid19 new daily case reports at 367 & 9 deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 12 Jan 2023:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation stayed steady as 367 persons recorded positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,031,443 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (238) or fully vaccinated (70). Unvaccinated persons numbered 56 and three were partially vaccinated.

Selangor (106) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (63), Melaka (39), Sarawak (34), Kedah (17), Penang (16), Johor (15), Negeri Sembilan (12), Sabah (12), Kelantan (11), Pahang (10), Perak (10) and Putrajaya (10). Single digits were recorded in Terengganu (8), Labuan (3) and Perlis (1).

The 398 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,983,170 (99%) while active cases dipped by 40 to 11,372 – with 10,846 (95.4%) in home quarantine, 502 (4.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 24 Covid19 patients, with 12 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added nine more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,901 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,859 casualties. The deaths involved six boosted persons, two fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
