PUTRAJAYA, 7 Jan 2023:
Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw 543 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,029,337 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (384) or fully vaccinated (84). Unvaccinated persons numbered 72 and three partially vaccinated.
Selangor (162) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (87), Melaka (46), Sarawak (44), Penang (34), Perak (30), Johor (25), Putrajaya (24), Kedah (22), Negeri Sembilan (19), Sabah (14), Terengganu (11), Kelantan (10) and Pahang (10). Single digits were recorded in Perlis (3) and Labuan (2).
The 688 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,981,052 (99%) while active cases fell 149 to 11,415 – with 10,828 (94.9%) in home quarantine, 554 (4.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 33 Covid19 patients, with 14 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added another four fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,870 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,857 casualties. The death involved three boosted persons and one fully vaccinated.
