PUTRAJAYA, 2 Jan 2023:
Malaysia’s Covid19 situation further dipped to 420 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,027,097 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (301) or fully vaccinated (61). Unvaccinated persons numbered 58.
Selangor (139) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (55), Penang (46), Melaka (31), Sarawak (26), Kedah (25), Perak (23), Sabah (14), Johor (13), Kelantan (13) and Negeri Sembilan (11). States reporting in the single digits are Pahang (8), Putrajaya (8), Terengganu (7), Labuan (1) and none in Perlis.
The 547 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,978,369 (99%) while active cases fell 131 to 11,871 – with 11,232 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 609 (5.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 30 Covid19 patients, with just nine needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added four more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,857 – with another two brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,854 casualties. The death involved two boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
