Pre-Endemic day 273: Covid19 new case reports at 679

PUTRAJAYA, 30 Dec 2022:

After three consecutive days since October 2020 of reporting fewer than 500 new daily Covid19 cases, Malaysia’s latest 24 hours under review saw a rise to 679 persons recording positive tests – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,025,581 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (495) or fully vaccinated (95). Unvaccinated persons numbered 86 while three were partially vaccinated.

Selangor (221) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (94), Sarawak (79), Melaka (50), Penang (44), Perak (34), Kedah (30), Johor (26), Kelantan (24), Putrajaya (21), Pahang (19) and Terengganu (14). States reporting in the single digits are Negeri Sembilan (9), Sabah (9), Labuan (3) and Perlis (2).

The 923 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,976,060 (99%) while active cases fell 250 to 12,670 – with 11,991 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 645 (5.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units fell to 34 Covid19 patients, with 21 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,851 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,852 casualties. The death involved three boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
