Pre-Endemic day 270: Covid19 new daily case reports drop to 480

PUTRAJAYA, 27 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports dropped below the 500 mark for the first time since October 2020 as the latest 24 hours under review saw a dip to 480 persons recording positive tests – with seven imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,023,999 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (350) or fully vaccinated (72). Unvaccinated persons numbered 54, with four partially vaccinated.

Selangor (199) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Penang (49), Kuala Lumpur (44), Sarawak (31), Kedah (26), Perak (26), Melaka (22), Johor (18), Negeri Sembilan (15), Kelantan (12), Putrajaya (11) and Sabah (11). Only Pahang (7), Terengganu (4), Perlis (3) and Labuan (2) reported in the single digits.

The 655 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,973,346 (99%) while active cases fell 179 to 13,818 – with 12,888 (93.3%) in home quarantine, 885 (6.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 45 Covid19 patients, with 20 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added four fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,835 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,849 casualties. The death involved a boosted person, one fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
