PUTRAJAYA, 25 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports continue to stay below the 1,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw a dip to 766 persons recording positive tests – with no imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,022,910 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (541) or fully vaccinated (140). Unvaccinated persons numbered 80, with five partially vaccinated.
Selangor (319) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (88), Sarawak (72), Kedah (47), Melaka (42), Penang (41), Pahang (27), Negeri Sembilan (24), Putrajaya (24), Perak (20), Sabah (17), Terengganu (14), Johor (11) and Kelantan (10). Only Perlis (6) and Labuan (4) reported in the single digits.
The 1,026 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,971,955 (99%) while active cases fell 261 to 14,124 – with 13,276 (94%) in home quarantine, 806 (5.7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 42 Covid19 patients, with 21 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added a fatality to raise the death toll to 36,831 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,849 casualties. The death involved an unvaccinated person.
