PUTRAJAYA, 16 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed above the 1,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,161 persons recording positive tests – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,014,885 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (828) or fully vaccinated (200). Unvaccinated persons numbered 130, with three partially vaccinated.
Selangor (362) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (142) and Sarawak (132), while double digits were recorded in Melaka (82), Kedah (73), Penang (59), Perak (54), Negeri Sembilan (46), Kelantan (42), Sabah (41), Pahang (35), Johor (30), Putrajaya (30) and Terengganu (25). Only Labuan (7) and Perlis (1) reported in the single digits.
The 1,562 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,961,287 (98.9%) while active cases fell 404 to 16,811 – with 15,749 (93.7%) in home quarantine, 1,004 (6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 58 Covid19 patients, with 34 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added three fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,787 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,838 casualties. The deaths involved all three unvaccinated persons.
