Pre-Endemic day 253: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 1,597

PUTRAJAYA, 10 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports are steady as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,597 persons recording positive tests – with five imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,008,452 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,068) or fully vaccinated (355). Unvaccinated persons numbered 169, with five partially vaccinated.

Selangor (463) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (147), Sarawak (137), Penang (133) and Melaka (131), while double digits were charted in Perak (96), Kedah (92), Sabah (76), Negeri Sembilan (73), Kelantan (64), Putrajaya (58), Pahang (56), Johor (24), Terengganu (22) and Labuan (18). Only Perlis (7) reported in the single digit.

The 2,596 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,951,236 (98.9%) while active cases fell 1,005 to 20,468 – with 19,145 (93.5%) in home quarantine, 1,237 (6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units were steady at 86 Covid-19 patients, with 54 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,748 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,828 casualties. The deaths involved three boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
