PUTRAJAYA, 8 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports are steady as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,682 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,005,239 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,115) or fully vaccinated (390). Unvaccinated persons numbered 169, with eight partially vaccinated.
Selangor (486) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (160), Sarawak (150), Melaka (140), Penang (123) and Sabah (115), while double digits were charted in Kedah (87), Negeri Sembilan (79), Pahang (74), Perak (71), Kelantan (66), Putrajaya (45), Johor (37), Terengganu (33) and Labuan (11). Only Perlis (5) reported in the single digit.
The 1,428 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,946,495 (98.8%) while active cases rose 248 to 22,006 – with 20,514 (93.2%) in home quarantine, 1,401 (6.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 91 Covid-19 patients, with 58 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 6 fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,738 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,826 casualties. The deaths involved three boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
