Pre-Endemic day 250: Surge of 16 deaths amid 1,649 Covid-19 new daily case reports

PUTRAJAYA, 7 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports are steady as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,649 persons recording positive tests – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,003,557 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,123) or fully vaccinated (328). Unvaccinated persons numbered 192, with six partially vaccinated.

Selangor (530) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (170), Sarawak (170), Melaka (126) and Kedah (116), while double digits were charted in Kelantan (92), Penang (87), Sabah (79), Perak (59), Negeri Sembilan (42), Pahang (42), Johor (40), Putrajaya (34), Terengganu (34) and Labuan (20). Only Perlis (8) reported in the single digit.

The 1,675 discharges just outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,945,067 (98.8%) while active cases fell 42 to 21,758 – with 20,243 (93%) in home quarantine, 1,414 (6.5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 101 Covid-19 patients, with 64 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 16 fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,732 – with another eight brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,826 casualties. The deaths involved six boosted persons, six fully vaccinate and four unvaccinated.
