Pre-Endemic day 249: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 1,576

PUTRAJAYA, 6 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports are steady as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,576 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,001,908 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,064) or fully vaccinated (332). Unvaccinated persons numbered 168, with 12 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (637) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kedah (146) and Sabah (100), while double digits were charted in Kuala Lumpur (99), Melaka (99), Kelantan (96), Penang (82), Sarawak (79), Perak (51), Johor (40), Terengganu (39), Negeri Sembilan (37), Pahang (29) and Putrajaya (29). Only Labuan (7) and Perlis (6) reported in the single digits.

The 2,278 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,943,392 (98.8%) while active cases fell 705 to 21,800 – with 20,198 (92.7%) in home quarantine, 1,504 (6.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 98 Covid-19 patients, with 69 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added three fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,716 – with another two brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,818 casualties. The deaths involved one boosted person and two unvaccinated.
