Pre-Endemic day 219: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 4,621

PUTRAJAYA, 6 Nov 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports continued above the 4,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw 4,621 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,923,538 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (3,355) or fully vaccinated (952). Unvaccinated persons numbered 299, with 15 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (2,018) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (806), Negeri Sembilan (355), Sabah (272), Penang (228), Perak (207) and Melaka (196), while double digits were charted in Kedah (96), Sarawak (95), Pahang (86), Putrajaya (83), Kelantan (65), Johor (64) and Terengganu (41). Single digit new cases were recorded in Perlis (7) and Labuan (2).

The 3,577 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,850,474 (98.5%) while active cases rose 1,043 to 36,582 – with 34,907 (95.4%) in home quarantine, 1,605 (4.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units steadied at 70 Covid-19 patients, with 50 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added fatality to raise the death toll to 36,482 – with no brought-in-dead case for the second straight day keeping this subtotal at 7,763 casualties. The deaths involved a fully boosted person.
