A form two student of a boarding school in Kepala Batas near here sustained head and body injuries following an attack by a group of about 15 form four students of the school early Saturday morning.
Seberang Perai Utara District police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the 14-year-old student lodged a police report on the incident about 8.50pm on Sunday after seeking treatment at a clinic in Kepala Batas.
He said the student reported the incident occurred about 3am on the third floor corridor of the school’s hostel for males.
“The attack was believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding whereby, a form four student was allegedly insulted and ridiculed.”
Noorzainy said the form four student had informed about 30 of his friends – before about 15 of them struck, slapped and kicked the victim and three other form two students, who also sustained bruises and scratches on the body and legs.
“Earlier today, we recorded statements from several students believed to have been involved in the attack. They were later freed on police bail.”
Meanwhile in another development, a man was seriously injured following an attack by a group of youths in Mak Mandik near here early on Sunday.
Noorzainy said the assailants armed with machetes and samurai sword had confronted the 30-year-old victim about 3.20am, in front of an entertainment centre in Jalan Ong Yi How.
Separately in SEREMBAN, police detained a man to facilitate investigations into an arson case on Sunday at the 154-year-old Then Sze Koon Temple – one of the oldest temples in Negeri Sembilan.
Seremban district police chief, ACP Thiew Hock Poh said the 24-year-old man was arrested in front of a restaurant in Jalan Temiang, here, at 12.15pm.
“Police also seized a cash box suspected to belong to the temple, clothes used by the suspect during the incident, and a motorcycle and helmet,” he said in a statement.
Thiew said in a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, a man was seen acting suspiciously in the temple before the fire.
“Also through the CCTV recording, the same suspect appeared to have ransacked the office space in the temple to steal money. However, the estimated loss cannot be ascertained yet.”
Thiew said the suspect was being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire with the intention of destroying the building and would be remanded today.
The Then Sze Koon Temple, located in Temiang, was about 40% destroyed in the blaze on Sunday morning but no casualties were reported.
The temple, also known as the Centipede Temple, is a historical building in Seremban, established in 1864 and is a popular tourist spot here.
