Navy murders: Accused had threatened to harm victims’ family members

LUMUT, 17 Oct 2017:

A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel who was earlier charged with the murder of two colleagues, claimed trial at Seri Manjung Magistrate’s Court to eight more charges of voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

RMN leading rate Mohd Izhrifikri Roslee, 29, allegedly committed the offences on two first seamen – Mohd Farhan Md Said, 30, and Mohd Syaiful Nizam Mardzuki, 30 – at the RMN detention room in Sungai Wangi, Sitiawan.

On the first three charges, he is accused of hitting and injuring Mohd Farhan on the soles of his feet in the detention room between 8pm on Sept 12 and 12 noon on Sept 14.

On the fourth to sixth charges, he is accused of doing the same to Mohd Syaiful Nizam at the same place between 10am on Sept 21 and 12 noon on Sept 23.

Mohd Izhrifikri is also accused on two counts of threatening to beat up Mohd Farhan and Mohd Syaiful Nizam to death and harm their families if they told the truth to police.

He allegedly committed the offences in front of cell No 4 (Syaful Nizam) and cell No 7 (Farhan) at the detention unit between 2pm and 3pm on Sept 29.

Magistrate Nur Shaqira Ibrahim set Oct 30 for remention.

Three others – Hamzah Zakaria @ Ali, 35; Mohd Farham Mohd Azmi, 31; and Saifulnizam Razaly, 37 – were charged separately with hitting and injuring Mohd Farhan’s soles at the Identification Parade Detention Room between 10am and 12.30pm on Sept 13.

Mohd Farham pleaded guilty and was fined RM1,600 in default six months imprisonment while Saifulnizam and Hamzah who claimed trial were granted bail of RM4,000 with one surety each, pending remention on Oct 30.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad and Harris Ong Jeffry Ong appeared for the prosecution while the three accused were unrepresented.
