Starting this year, Kemas (the Community Development Department) only focuses on diploma holders or those with qualification in childcare in the new intake of teachers for its kindergartens and nurseries.
Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, in line with current progress, Kemas was undergoing a transformation which included the strengthening of its teaching workforce with a minimum of diploma qualification.
He said the Early Childhood Diploma Programme introduced in 2006 witnessed 7,365 Kemas kindergarten and nursery teachers acquiring diplomas and becoming S27 staff.
“Meanwhile, another 1,000 Kemas teachers are pursuing diplomas at higher learning institutions nationwide.”
He added, KKLW has allocated RM700 million each year for development purpose and Kemas activities involving 11,215 kindergarten classes and 499 nursery classes nationwide.
