KUALA LUMPUR, 13 June 2017:
Grab Malaysia, which had supported its driver app with a PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) ‘panic button’ – for drivers to immediately contact police in case of emergencies – is now expediting plans to extend the feature to the Grab passenger app as well.
Also, with immediate effect, Grab Malaysia has removed a driver who was alleged to have sexually assaulted a passenger, from its platform pending completion of police investigations.
In a statement, Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh described the news as deeply distressing and the company’s priority is to assist and provide support to the passenger and her family, besides fully cooperating with the authorities.
“We regret there has been an incident reported on June 11 where a GrabCar driver was alleged to have sexually assaulted a passenger.
“We have a zero tolerance policy to any crime and serious misconduct by drivers.”
Police have detained a GrabCar service driver who allegedly raped a woman passenger in his car at Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan on Sunday.
The 30-year-old suspect had allegedly raped the victim, who was said to have been in a state of drunkenness about 4am in his car.
