E-scooters firm denies being cause of bikes on fire at KLCC Suria

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 April 2023:

Bikes at the open-air parking area outside KLCC Suria in the city centre were destroyed by fire earlier today and the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department sent a total of 15 firefighters, with three fire engines – from Tun Razak and Keramat fire stations – rushed to the scene during the 3.45pm incident.

Operations commander Mohd Iqbal Khan Malek Khan said the fire affected 13 motorbikes and four e-scooters, with all destroyed totally – except for four motorbikes with minor burn damage.

While the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Beam said in a statement that its e-scooters were damaged by a fire that took place in front of KLCC this evening.

“Beam is relieved that no passers-by were harmed in the incident, and we would like to update that upon investigation by the relevant authorities, our vehicles were not the cause of the fire.

“Safety is the utmost priority for Beam and as such, we use tech and body hardware of the highest grades (aircraft grade aluminium) to ensure durability. The batteries installed in each Beam e-scooter additionally follow international safety certifications to ensure the highest standards of safety.”
