Cheap land sale scams still rampant

IPOH, 17 Aug 2017:

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir yesterday reminded the public not to be duped by land sale scams by syndicates or individuals – who encroached upon government land, subdivided these into lots and then sold them at a cheap price.

He said the state government had detected such illegal transactions involving several plots of land across the state after receiving applications for the land titles from the scam victims.

“We have received reports on retired civil servants and ordinary people using their money to buy such lots, thinking that these had gone through the legal process while the lots were illegally acquired.

“After that they (victims) would apply to the state government for the land titles by enclosing the statutory declaration document stating that they had bought the land from the owners.”

In light of this, he urged the public not be cheated in this manner and to obtain the relevant information from the state government before partaking in such land sale and purchase transactions.

“They were duped by the low prices offered at RM5,000 to RM10,000 for three, five or 10 acres of land by the syndicates or individuals involved.”

However, he added, the state government had asked the Land and Mines Department and District Offices to check on the areas involved.
