Why not have a biscuit for breakfast?

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 Aug 2017:

There was a time not too long ago when biscuits were considered tea time snacks, and anyone who said they were going to have a biscuit for breakfast would have earned himself a raised eyebrow.

Not anymore.

With biscuits today packing in the minerals, vitamins and fibre, the humble biscuit has become a common breakfast staple; one that is considered to provide a balanced, healthy start to the day.

With that in mind, Mondelez Malaysia’s newest product variation for its belVita breakfast biscuits range – belVita Banana and Oats – is aimed at providing Malaysians with more options to enjoy a balanced and healthy breakfast.

Speaking at the launch event today, Sharon Tan – head of biscuit & salty snacks at Mondelēz International – said, “Malaysians in general are aware that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, to fuel the mind, body and soul.

“Thus, it is vital for us to create a product that includes quality and nutritional ingredients that also appeals to the local lifestyle and preferences.”

The conveniently individually packed banana oats biscuits are great for eating on the go, so busy individuals no longer have an excuse to compromise on their first meal of the day.

Dr Hamid Jan Mohamed, associate professor at the School of Health Sciences of Universiti Sains Malaysia for Nutrition and Dietetics Programme, gave insights on the importance of having a quality breakfast.

“A good breakfast is essential to our long-term physical, mental and emotional health. It also plays a vital role in deterring hypertension and diabetes. Starting the day with a good quality breakfast will boost your health, balance your hormones and provide you with adequate energy.

“It is also a great way to prevent obesity and maintain a healthy body mass index. Oats are known for the dietary fibre, minerals and cholesterol-lowering properties.

“However, oats alone are not enough to ensure a wholesome meal. Therefore, fruits such as banana are one of the best complementary options due to its fibre, potassium, vitamin C and B6 content that support cardiovascular wellbeing.”

The belVita Banana and Oats comes in two snacking options: 80g and 160g. There are two other variants available in supermarkets – milk and cereal; and honey and chocolate; both of which were launched in August last year.
