Shopee continues to post strong sales growth

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 June 2017:

Shopee, the largest e-commerce marketplace in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, achieved over US$3 billion in annualised Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) across the region for the first half of 2017 from US$2.5 billion until February this year.

Regional managing director Ian Ho said this was on the back of an increase in number of users from 30 million until February to 40 million at present.

“In Malaysia alone, we have so far attracted over three million users currently from two million in February.

“The tremendous growth is due to the ongoing one-year free shipping with Pos Malaysia, as well as the inclusion of established brands like Nestle, Unilever and Huawei on our platform.”

Ho said Shopee, which achieved a month-on-month growth of 43% last year, was committed to helping local sellers, especially mompreneurs and students to grow their business.

Ho expects Shopee’s Aidilfitri sales to increase threefold and promised the upcoming last-minute sales campaign for Raya will offer truly attractive discounts on many products on the platform.

The “Cahaya Raya Bersama Shopee” campaign, which was launched on May 15, continues until June 30, offering discounts.

Shopee also yesterday announced that local celebrities, Anzalna Nasir and Mira Filzah had chosen Shopee as their preferred e-commerce platform to launch their exclusive Aidilfitri collections.

During the festive season, Shopee offers a 50% discount to customers who use the codes ANZALNA and MFLAUNCH at AnzalnaNasir and MF Shop, respectively. The offers expire at noon on Sunday.

Shopee, which is strongly supported by Sea (formerly known as Garena), Southeast Asia’s largest Internet platform provider, can be downloaded for free on App Store and Google Play in Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
