KUALA LUMPUR, 15 Nov 2017:
Felda plans to transform its land schemes into smart townships under the Felda 2.0 programme by 2050 – which will be able to provide new source of revenue.
Chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the smart townships would be equipped with basic infrastructure and amenities with access to high-speed internet.
“Among the new revenue generating opportunities to be explored is via tourism. We cannot be satisfied with agricultural income alone or expect the economy to grow by simply opening more shops.”
During a National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue session on ‘New Generation of Felda Leaders Aspirations towards 2050’ here yesterday, he said the local economy should also be expanded to attract outsiders and settlers themselves to spend on the activities being planned at the Felda land schemes.
Shahrir said that for a start, the Felda 2.0 project would start with Felda Lurah Bilut scheme in Pahang in January next year with an estimated allocation of RM10 million.
The initiative also adopted the TN50 approach with input from people at the grassroots adding that among the matters raised by participants was the need for a Felda hospital.
