Petron supports rising Malaysian artistic talents

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 Sept 2017:

Petron Malaysia today announced the winners of the 5th Vision Petron art competition which was themed “Rediscovering the Ingenuity of Youth” during the prize presentation ceremony held at the 1Utama Shopping Mall in Damansara Utama.

Petron Malaysia in a statement said the competition which started in February this year received nearly 1,000 participants from undergraduate students from 20 different public and private universities and colleges nationwide.

Out of that number, a total of 18 young talented artists stood out as winners of three categories namely painting, photography and videography.

Sze To Joe Yin of Malaysian Institute of Art  emerged as the grand prize winner in the art painting category with his brilliant touch on the transition between childhood and adulthood with his artwork ‘The best Time in Life’.

Mohd Syamil Mohd Rasli from the Multimedia University emerged as the grand prize winner in the photography category, while a group of three UiTM Puncak Perdana students – Nursyafiq Zahin Zamri, Afiq Naqiuddin Mohd Fauzi and Mohd Syarafi Saadon won the videography grand prize for their video clip titled ‘Runpost’ after the judges were impressed with the story about a boy who loves to run becoming an inspiration to a local courier company.

Grand prize winners of each category received cash prize of RM3,000.

The selection of winning artworks were chosen based on originality, composition, and creativity. Among the judges were Malaysia’s own renowned movers and shakers of the local film and art industries such as Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba, Datuk Yusof Haslam, Tan Chui Mui, Awang Damit Ahmad, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Bibi Chew, Amri Ginang, Zainuddin Arshad and Ng Kok Leong.

The top 20 artwork will be on display at the 1Utama Shopping Mall in Damansara Utama for the entire week starting Sept 12.
